Summer Camp

Behind Every Great Kid has successfully completed A Balanced Summer Camp for Disadvantaged and Foster Children at the Healing Center located in Tri County (11345 Century Circle W.) on Thursday evenings for eight weeks from June 18 to August 2, 2018. This summer program is sponsored by Greater Cincinnati Foundation. Behind Every Great Kid has serviced a total of 88 children from age 5 to age 14, and 100% of them are economically disadvantaged.  The program participants met on Thursdays and engaged in academic and extracurricular activities.  During the eight week program, 88 students came from 26 elementary and middle school in Greater Cincinnati area. They spent time reviewing and deepening their math knowledge, improving their reading comprehension, and building their social skills. This free program has reduced learning attrition in the summer for the students who do not have the opportunity or financial support to attend other summer camps.  Children interact with an age appropriate group of kids in a variety of activities, including reviewing grade level reading, math skills, and other enrichment activities. This camp was able to utilize electronics to reinforcement basic academic skills, such as playing education games on the iPad, further enhancing the children’s learning. Many participants felt they were more caught up with school and more excited for the school year to start.
